Mental Fortitude and Reclamation of Self

Mental fortitude is the ability to persevere and maintain strength of mind in the face of adversity. It involves qualities like resilience, determination, and emotional intelligence. Building mental fortitude can help individuals cope with stress, overcome challenges and achieve their goals. But what happens when we’ve reached capacity and no longer have the bandwidth to manage any more mental strain? This is a feeling of overwhelm, stress, and anxiety. We feel lost, foggy and disconnected from our intuition. The path forward becomes unclear. We feel desperate to shake all the burdens.

When this happens, it’s important to get centered, quickly. But how do we do this? Here are my recommendations:

-Sleep. Seems simple but I have often found that if I give myself permission to release all the stress and anxiety, just before bed, I will sleep well and wake up feeling clear and typically with the answers I was searching for.

-Breathwork. Our breath is a powerful tool to allow us to close the stress cycle, release emotion and heal wounds. It’s a game changer for life. There are many breathwork modalities. I recommend conscious connected breathing and can guide you through the practice. Take a few deep breaths now. How does that feel?

-Movement. I’ve never regretted a walk in nature or a workout or a yoga class. You won’t either. Laying on the couch isn’t going to help. Getting up to move your body resets your nervous system and that can be the simple act you need to move through the stress and overwhelm. Just shaking your hands vigorously can help. Try it!

Connection. Reach out to a friend. Choose someone you haven’t spoken to in awhile. Just a quick text to let them know you are thinking about them. You’ll make them feel good and that will be reflected back to you. Don’t hoard your affection or attention. Often times we hesitate to connect. We feel like we’re bothering people. Trust me, you’re not. People will be so happy to hear from you. As I’m writing this, I just texted 10 people and said, “I hope you have a spectacular day!” and each recipient messaged back and wished me the same. That’s what we do for one another.

It can be very simple to reset and reclaim our self. Small steps in the right direction. Pause and make a choice to try each one of these recommendations and witness the difference it makes. You’ll gain clarity and feel more focused. Go forth and reclaim your self.
